HERE'S WHAT I LEARNED TODAY
Today I learned that lack of sleep can have severe consequences to the body and the mind. During sleep the mind shuts itself from its surroundings and looks inwards at itself to recollect and edit itself.  In fact, when we sleep the brain looks through the information collected throughout the day and decides what is important. If a soldier who has gone through a traumatic event and sleeps right away they are a lot more likely to have PTSD afterwards because the brain would decide that the memory was an important one even though it is negative. It teaches the person what should be avoided for survival. Also, during sleep the body produces melatonin and a growth hormone which helps the body by supplying it with proteins, bone reconstruction, and defending the immune system.
